Liscannor & the Cliffs of Moher
Liscannor sits on the Wild Atlantic Way in west Clare, five minutes from the Cliffs of Moher and ten from Lahinch — one of the great links towns on the west coast. It's a small fishing village first, a launch point for the Burren and the Aran Islands second, and the birthplace of John Philip Holland, inventor of the modern submarine, entirely by the way. Space, sea air, and enough within a 45-minute drive to fill a week without repeating a day.
Getting here
From Shannon Airport — About 55km, under an hour by car via the N85 and N67. The nearest international airport, and the practical route in for most visitors.
From Dublin — About 260km, roughly 3 hours by car via the M6 and M18. No direct train — Ennis is the nearest station, with a taxi or transfer needed from there.
From Galway — About 70km, around an hour by car via the N67 coast road through Ballyvaughan and the Burren — a scenic route in its own right.
A few things worth knowing
Grouped the way we'd tell a friend, not the way a brochure would.

Cliffs of Moher
Ireland's most-visited natural attraction, rising to 214 metres over 8km of coastline. Go early morning or evening to miss the coach traffic between 10am and 4pm.

St Brigid's Well
An ancient pilgrimage well in a man-made cave on the edge of the village, on the Wild Atlantic Way itself. Free, quiet, and easy to miss if you're not looking for it.

Poulnabrone Dolmen
A Neolithic portal tomb on the Burren, older than Stonehenge and the Pyramids. Free, roadside, open year-round on the R480.

Caherconnell Stone Fort
A near-thousand-year-old ringfort with sheepdog demonstrations run by the same family that farms the land around it. Book the combined ticket in peak season.

Bunratty Castle & Folk Park
A complete 15th-century tower house alongside a 26-acre folk park. The medieval banquet needs booking ahead.

Lahinch Beach
A blue-flag beach and one of Ireland's best-known surf breaks, with lessons available on the promenade.

The Burren National Park
250 square kilometres of limestone karst, rare flora, and walking trails that empty out fast once you're past the car park.
