The best Irish gifts this Christmas are ones that get used: a break away, a day out, a treat from an Irish maker, or a voucher with a long shelf life. This guide covers what to give, who to give it to, what people in Ireland are spending, and the rules if you're giving through work.
Start here: the Ultimate Irish Gift Maker. Tell us who it's for, how many people and your budget per gift, and it builds real options from what's in our shop, each led by a Sos Stays gift voucher. We handle delivery, including multiple addresses, and email a formal quote.
What are people in Ireland spending on Christmas?
The CCPC's 2025 research found people expected to spend about €1,163 in total on Christmas, which covers gifts, food, drink and more. A separate iReach Insights survey found adults planned to spend an average of €555 on gifts. The same CCPC research found that 22% of people hadn't used vouchers they were given the previous Christmas. So the question isn't only what to buy, it's whether it will get used.
What should you give each person?
- Parents or grandparents: a Sos Stays gift voucher for a quiet night away in the new year.
- A family with kids: Funtasia, for four (€149) in Drogheda.
- Someone who needs to switch off: the Wellness Spa Ritual (€100) at Tranquil View.
- A friend who has everything: a box of Loaded Cookies (€24), or a handmade Triskel Fairy Door from Celtic Cara (€35).
- Someone you can't decide on: a voucher, so they choose.
How do Sos Stays gift vouchers work?
Choose an amount from €50 to €1,000. The voucher is emailed as a PDF with a unique code, usually within 4 to 10 hours. It's valid for five years, and it goes towards a stay at Rathescar Grove in Louth, Howard's Way in Clare, Tinnashrule Farm Lodge in Wexford or Downings House in Donegal. Our gift voucher guide has the full detail.
What are the rules for gifts through work?
Employers can give each employee up to five small non-cash benefits a year, worth €1,500 in total, tax-free under Revenue's small benefit exemption. Gifts to clients are generally not tax-deductible. Our guides to gifts for staff and corporate gifting explain both. This isn't tax advice, so check with your accountant.
Key dates to plan around
- Standard vouchers arrive by email, so they work up to Christmas Eve. Order earlier if you want a branded or bulk order.
- 6 January is Nollaig na mBan, Women's Christmas, a good moment for a gift to the women in your life.
Where can you buy from Irish small businesses?
