Some weekends are for doing everything. This one is for doing very little, with your favourite person. Whether it's a girls' weekend away in Louth or a midweek escape this autumn, we've teamed up with Tranquil View Skincare and Wellness on a break for two at Rathescar Grove in the Boyne Valley. You get a room with its own balcony, an hour-long Wellness Spa Ritual at Tranquil View, and complimentary champagne waiting in your room when you get back. Midweek and weekend rates are available through October and November.

Your room: the Balcony Room at Rathescar Grove

Rathescar Grove is a guest house near Dunleer in Co. Louth. You'll have the Balcony Room: a king bed, a private ensuite and your own balcony looking out over farmland, grazing cattle and the Cooley and Mourne mountains. It's the room for a slow coffee in the morning and a glass of something in the evening.

Included: the Wellness Spa Ritual at Tranquil View

Included in your break is the Wellness Spa Ritual at Tranquil View Skincare and Wellness, in Tenure, Monasterboice, a short drive from Rathescar Grove with parking on site. It's a calm, private, ladies-only space run by Martina, who is properly passionate about skin.

The ritual is an hour long. It starts with warm oil worked gently into your back, neck and shoulders, then moves into a lymphatic drainage facial massage using heat and pressure points. You'll also get a complimentary hand and arm or scalp massage on top. Want a little more? Add hot stones for €30. See the full treatment menu.

Treatments are by appointment only, so book your slot when you book your stay. After that, all you have to organise is who's driving.

Complimentary champagne for after your spa

When you're home to your room after the spa, there'll be a complimentary bottle of champagne chilling in the fridge, ready for the balcony as the light goes over the fields. It's on us.

How your break might go

Day one: check in from 3pm, drop your bags and head to Tranquil View for your Wellness Spa Ritual. Then it's back to your room, where the champagne is waiting, and out onto the balcony while the light lasts.

Day two: a slow cuppa in your pyjamas, then check out by 11:30am (or stay until 2pm for €30, if the room is free). From there, take a short drive to Clogherhead for a coffee and some time by the sea: a walk along the harbour, a look out over the water, and a proper breath of sea air before you head home.

Things to do on a girls' break in Louth this autumn

  • Clogherhead: a short drive to the coast for coffee, a walk by the harbour and time at the sea. The perfect way to finish day two.
  • Drogheda: about 15 minutes away, for lunch, shops and coffee. If you come 23–26 October, the Lú Festival of Light lights up the town. More in our Drogheda guide.
  • Newgrange and the Boyne Valley: around 22km away, older than the pyramids and worth the visit. Here's how to visit Newgrange.
  • Monasterboice: about 6km down the road, for the high crosses and a quiet wander before or after your treatment.
  • Nothing at all: also a valid plan. The balcony and the view will be there all day.

Midweek or weekend: October and November rates

We have both midweek and weekend rates available for October and November. Midweek is quieter if you can wangle the time off; weekends work if you can't. Coming for the weekend? Tranquil View is open Saturdays until 5pm and closed on Sundays, so book your treatment for the Saturday. Either way, it's a girls' getaway near Dublin without the long drive. Message us at hello@sosstays.com to book.

Getting to Rathescar Grove

Rathescar Grove is just off the M1 at Junction 12. It's about 50 minutes from Dublin Airport and around 1 hour 10 minutes from Belfast City Airport.

Good to know: quiet hours are 10pm to 7am, and the house isn't set up for hen parties. This is the slow kind of break: good chats, early nights, and nobody needing anything from you.
